College Admissions Notes for HS Seniors in October

Happy October! As we enter into this Fall season, I know it's a busy time of year! I hope the first month of school has gone well for each of you. For seniors, if you are feeling stressed, just know that everyone is in the same boat and that it is a stressful time of year for applications. Things get much easier in November and December if you put in the work this month!

And if you are wondering - yes, we are still taking on senior clients! So, if you need some help on essays and/or the rest of the process, please reach out!

  • We should be complete (or very nearly complete) with the personal essay and making progress on the supplementals. If you have concerns, please send me a note.

  • If you haven't done so already, please make sure you have requested your teacher recs through Naviance and linked your Common App account to your Naviance account.

  • CSS Profile is now open for submission: Do any of the schools on your list require this form? Check here

    • If you do need to submit the form, here is a great guide for filling it out.

  • SRAR: Do any of your colleges require the SRAR? Check here

  • College Portals: Once you apply to a college, make sure you are watching your email inboxes closely! You will likely receive an email from each school you apply to asking that you establish an online portal with the college. Please do this ASAP.

In case you missed it: Check out my Baltimore Sun OpEd on how we might re-think priorities for our high schools students (ignore the click bait title – it isn't what I submitted! )

Quote of the Month: “Mastery requires a lot of practice. But the more you practice something, the more boring and routine it becomes. Thus, an essential component of mastery is the ability to maintain your enthusiasm. The master continues to find the fundamentals interesting.”  - James Clear

Let me also remind you of the college guide we released in May. We spent a lot of time building this resource and I have no doubt you will find it useful in understanding the key components of the college admissions process, regardless of whether your student is in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades. You can check it out here: Foundry College Admissions Guide

As always, if you are interested in speaking with us about how we partner with families to navigate the process, please feel free to grab some time with us here: Foundry Consultations
